How to Choose Planner Inserts: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Grid or Blank?
Share
The most useful planner inserts are not necessarily the most detailed ones. They are the pages that match the decisions you make each day. Before filling a binder with every available layout, start by identifying what you need to see, record and remember.
Daily planner inserts
Daily pages suit busy schedules, time blocking, detailed task lists and days with many appointments. They offer generous writing space, but they also add bulk quickly. Use daily pages only for active days rather than pre-filling an entire year if you prefer a lighter planner.
Weekly planner inserts
A weekly layout gives you an overview of appointments, deadlines and priorities. It is often the best starting point for work, school and family planning because you can see how commitments relate to one another. Pair it with a separate running task list if the boxes feel too small.
Monthly planner inserts
Monthly pages are ideal for important dates, recurring bills, launches, appointments and long-term deadlines. Keep the monthly spread simple so it remains easy to scan. Details can live on weekly or daily pages.
Grid and dot-grid paper
Grid paper supports lists, trackers, small diagrams and structured notes. Dot grid offers similar guidance with a lighter appearance. Both are flexible choices when you enjoy creating your own layouts but still want alignment.
Lined and blank paper
Lined inserts work well for longer notes, journaling and reading logs. Blank paper is useful for sketches, collage, mind maps and layouts that do not fit a fixed template.
A simple starter combination
- One monthly section for dates
- One weekly section for current plans
- Grid or lined pages for notes
- A few blank pages for flexible use
Paper quality also matters. Heavier paper such as 120gsm generally feels more substantial and handles many pens better, although ink performance varies by brand. Before ordering, confirm both page size and hole spacing using our planner size guide and hole spacing guide.
