A7 pocket planner inserts for compact daily weekly and monthly planning

A7 vs M5 Planners: Which Pocket Planner Size Should You Choose?

A7 and M5 planners are both compact, but they do not offer the same writing experience. The better choice depends on whether you want a genuinely tiny everyday carry or a small planner with enough room for structured layouts.

A7: compact with more writing room

A7 inserts are commonly around 80 × 120 mm, although brands can vary. The format works well for short weekly plans, appointments, lists, trackers and portable reference notes. It is small enough for many bags while remaining comfortable for people who find M5 too narrow.

M5: minimal and highly portable

M5 inserts are often around 62 × 105 mm or 67 × 105 mm depending on the planner system. This is why checking the exact product measurements matters. M5 is excellent for quick capture, shopping lists, wallet notes, short reminders and a few essential cards or references.

Which one fits your routine?

  • Choose A7 for compact weekly planning, small handwriting and more layout choices.
  • Choose M5 for maximum portability and very short notes.
  • Choose A7 if you want monthly or tracker inserts that remain readable.
  • Choose M5 if your planner must fit into a small everyday bag.

Do not rely on the size name alone

“A7,” “Pocket,” “M5” and “Mini” are not always used consistently across stationery brands. Confirm the paper width, height, ring count and hole spacing before buying refills. Our broader planner size guide explains the most common naming differences.

If you are still unsure, cut two test rectangles from scrap paper and write a typical task list on each. The size that feels natural after a few minutes is usually the better choice.
